Our Story

Since 1967, Greater New Hope Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of faith, family, and transformation in High Point. Our mission is to foster spiritual growth, build strong connections, and serve our community with purpose. At Greater New Hope, we offer vibrant worship, impactful ministries, and a welcoming space for all who seek to grow, belong, and make a difference.

Together, we are "Building One Family at a Time" and moving forward in faith, service, and love.

Our History

New Hope Baptist Church was organized on May 4, 1967—its founding day also marking the birthday of its first Pastor, Rev. Dr. E.J. Love, fourteen people were present, and the offering totaled just $14.60. The following Sunday, the church held its Inaugural Service at First Emanuel Baptist Church on Leonard Street, where Rev. L.L. Macon delivered the sermon.

Through God’s wonderful blessings and strong leadership, the church grew from fourteen members to over 450. It moved from its first location on Hulda Street to its present site, purchasing and renovating the building we now occupy. Over time, the congregation also acquired a pastorium at 1207 Cedrow Drive, two buses, and additional property at 1403 Franklin Avenue.

In January 1977, the church family began and completed the rebuilding of the current sanctuary. With this new chapter came a new name—Greater New Hope Baptist Church—symbolizing both the growth of the ministry and the faith of its members.

The legacy of those early years is marked by resilience, sacrifice, and unshakable belief in God’s power. As was often said, “God can do anything, if we believe.” That spirit continues to guide Greater New Hope as it builds upon its rich history and looks forward to generations yet to come.
